Judge Jones and Judge Jerry Larson at the Valor Court's opening ceremony

Meet Judge Amy Corrigall Jones

Judge Jones was elected in 2012 to a full six year term on the Summit County Court of Common Pleas.  In 2013, Judge Jones started the Summit County Valor Court and has served as the Presiding Judge since.  She was elected by her colleagues to serve as Presiding Judge of the Common Pleas Court in 2016 and then to serve as Administrative Judge of the General Division in 2017 and again in 2018.

Judge Amy Corrigall Jones graduated Summa Cum Laude from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She received her Juris Doctorate Degree from The University of Akron School of Law and was then admitted to the Ohio Bar and the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio.

Judge Jones began her legal career in the private sector and her practice involved primarily civil litigation, both at the trial and appellate levels. She handled cases throughout the State of Ohio and across the Country in both State and Federal Courts.

When Judge Jones entered in private practice, she represented clients involving both criminal defense matters and personal injury litigation. She also represented individuals in both Domestic Relations Court and Probate Court, but found that some of her most rewarding work was spent serving as a Guardian Ad Litem for children, an Advocate for the mentally ill and as a Guardian for incompetent adults.

After being elected and making the transition to the Summit County Court of Common Pleas in 2012, Judge Jones quickly used her past experience, and in collaboration with Judge Jerry K. Larson of the Akron Municipal Court, began the Summit County Valor Court, a Veteran’s Treatment Court in 2013.

Summit County Valor Court was established when Judge Jones and Judge Larson recognized that many of the veterans they’d seen, were return to civilian life with serious trauma both physical and mental, which may lead to their involvement with the criminal justice system. In the Valor Court, Veterans are provided access to programs, treatment and interaction with mentors in a collaborative initiative to enhance their chances of success.

I strive to serve our community by finding opportunities to learn and grow, embracing humanity and authenticity, and pursuing fairness and true justice for all.
